Barry, we live on the east coast so we took advantage of the time difference for orientation. We flew in the morning before and explored the area. Stayed in a hotel very near campus. Early the next morning we attended the orientation and took an evening flight home. The important thing is to be there early and well rested on the morning the day of orientation. Wear confortable shoes!

@ Susan, regarding Poly Campus, we have a parent page for Poly as well.  As to the Locking of stuff, the desk and large wardrobes have a way to be locked but you need to bring a lock for them.  We waited to see what we needed and then went and purchased ones that were keyed the same.  Hope this helps!

My experience is with Hassayampa on the Tempe campus, so I can't speak for the other campuses. Sorry.

Since there are differences between the Tempe campus and the Polytechnic campus, are there different parent groups as well?  Does all of this information about move in, dressers that locks, free laundry, etc. apply to both campuses?

For those of you that live close to phoenix, this is an idea for moving out. What we did, when he came home for spring break, he brought with him most if not all of his winter clothes. Then when we went to visit him a couple of times after that, we brought back even more stuff. So when we moved him out a couple of weeks ago, we virtually packed everything in 3 boxes. We were looking at other parents moving their students out and it was amazing how much stuff was accumulated. One guy still had his christmas tree. So a word to the wise. Tell your students not to accumulate so much stuff and after spring break, start telling them to get rid of stuff and move out will be easier.

Ladies, last years move in for us was so easy. Since my son had to move in about a week before everyone else due to band camp, we did not experience the move in experience. But in a way i'm still glad we missed it because moving in with absolutely no else moving in was even more of a breeze.

The drawers in the dresser, at least one of them, locks and the laptop easily fits in there.  I also signed up for the insurance that is available to protect all of the belongings in the room, just in case of theft or sprinkler mishaps that might destroy anything. It was very reasonable, and even though we didn't use it, it was nice to know it was there.

Sheila, I think you just found your new vocation.  Great idea!  Glad to help with the info, just a year ago when all those details were mind boggling to us as well.

No ID, money or code is needed for the laundry.
