Yes Alexandra, it is tough being so far away and out of the loop, but I guess that is all part of letting them fly. Hunter said that Tyler was fine and he should be getting in touch with you soon. With initiation being tonight, they will have their phones back.
Good that you were able to talk to your son.
Alexandra, what a relief! When my son was a newly minted fraternity member there were times when he would go "dark". Most times he had advance warning and gave me a heads up - after the first time. Like you however, he did not do that the first time. There was a lot of heartache. I'm sorry to report, but as they get older and more confident in their independence, the communication diminishes (at least in my case). It's a tough pill to swallow, but they are doing exactly what we raised them to do - be independent and self-sufficient.
Alexandra Peairs, I am very happy for you. I bet that put a smile on your face and a spring in your step. Have a great day! Happy Thanksgiving week to all.
So glad he is OK. Happy thanksgiving to all.
Thank you guys I was also able to get in touch with his roommate who told me he was safe so I felt better then and then he called last night.
He is in Fiji and their phones had been taken away. I understand this is tradition but for a student whose only family lives 1500 miles away,l find it insensitive. He did not tell me that before it happened which is why after speaking to him every 2 to 3 days I got worried after 1 week of nothing.
I would like to just voice my concern... why do they allow this? I'm just saying as an out of state mom. It is crazy and nerve racking for parents. I understand things like this have been done for years and years...but? Alexandra I hope that you hear from your son very soon. Please let us all know as soon as you do..Take care..
My daughter is in a different dorm and says she doesn't know him, didn't know how to go about tracking him down with no room #. But she did say her friends doing the frat thing all 'disappeared' this week.
Our son is a Fiji pledge and he has been emailing off and on. They had to give up their cell phones for "hell week". I let him know you are concerned and that if he knows your son to tell him to get in touch.
