Remember the tiny cube fridges we had in college?  Well, they're twice that size now.  And with a REAL freezer door.  The micro is attached to the top so it is one unit.  You should be getting rental info in the mail.  It MIGHT be $50.00 now and $65.00 later.  No, not that much more to buy but we didn't want to haul the thing back and forth.  My son had no theft problems in the room, didn't hear of anything.  (Other than bikes)  We did get him a little safe for his room which made him feel better about his credit card etc.  Someone could have just walked off with it but I guess it would deter an opportunistic thief.  There is a good website somewhere (duh) that has small safes with the fingerprint access $100-$200 but we didn't go that route.

Hmm my son hate's leftovers and lives and dies by fast food, is there a standard size? I see them from 1.7-3.2 cubic feet.  What is the rental price pre-August? Seems like with a coupon its cheaper to buy. Also is theft a problem? I read some posts about locking some individual items, seems like a major hassle and I never had that problem in college.....but that's when dinosaurs roamed the campus....

Both my son and his roommate had a fridge/micro.  They needed both fridges.  My son's eating schedule didn't coordinate well with the dining room hours and the roomie was a protein shake addict..  If you wait on the rental until August it goes up $15.  We found that out...:(

Caroline,  I think most students watch TV through their computers.  We are not sending a TV with our son for that reason and because it's hard to find space for a TV.  We are going to wait until our son finds out who his roommate is to try to coordinate the refrigerator and microwave purchasing.  If we can connect up with him we could have one buy the microwave and the other buy the refrigerator.

Hey everyone, my son will be at Carey for Business does he really need a tv for in his room? Also do most students share a mini fridge with their roommate? I'm trying to gauge what he actually needs as opposed to his wants....which are totally impractical

Hi Denise, you're correct! After the first year, students are allowed to either move off-campus or select a roommate of their choosing (unless they are in Barrett, the Honors College, where students must remain a part of the residential community for two years).

Betsy, I agree that it will be a great learning/growing experience for our kids.   :)    My son will be paired with someone in San Pablo because he doesn't know anyone living there.  He seems ok with that.  So, do I understand correctly that after freshman year students can choose to live with someone who isn't in the same college?

Denise, most students move out after their freshman year...  Our son just completed his freshman year and took "pot luck" for a roomie.  I took one look at the kid and knew they wouldn't be friends for life, but they got along fine.  These kids learn so much figuring out how to coordinate 4 strangers and 1 bathroom.  1 of their stuitemates was foreign and had a COMPLETELY different interpretation of clean.  The other 3 did a marvelous job handling the situation.   It really helps to have everyone in your dorm to be in the same college.  That way they have at least something in common.  My son made so many new friends, realized those he had to ease out of his life, and those who were worth keeping.

I believe thats what the girls were told, that its a freshman thing. Never even occurred to us, since they're both in Hassayampa.

I hear you, NH Kim.  Unfortunately, that's how ASU houses students-according to the college of their major.  I'm wondering if that's only for freshmen.....   Does anyone know?
